More than half of privately-owned businesses expect to change ownership or leadership over the next decade. Our goal is to develop and diversify the next generation of manufacturing leaders and owners.

What's stopping you from taking the opportunity to own/lead a manufacturing company? Authentic leadership starts with your passion but also requires self-exploration, learning from peers, and working with experts to further develop the toolkit you'll need to optimize your leadership skills.

This process takes different forms for different individuals, and we've designed the program to be participant-led. We are now accepting applications for our next cohort and encourage you to apply today!

Manufacturing Works' Leadership Institute provides a high-level overview of knowledge and skills needed for acquiring and leading a manufacturing company, while also helping you explore your leadership strengths and future career path(s).

Target Audience

Future owners of manufacturing or manufacturing-related companies, current business owners and team members using acquisition as a growth strategy, and future senior leaders and/or equity partners (President, C-suite). We value diversity and inclusion and aim to have each cohort made up of at least 50% women and/or people of color. Examples of past participants:

  • Current senior team member of a manufacturing company using acquisition as a growth strategy
  • New owner of manufacturing-related company seeking knowledge and tools in business ownership
  • Partial owner of manufacturing company with goals of majority ownership in the future
  • Owner of a non-manufacturing related business looking to add a manufacturing component to current business
  • Owner of a non-manufacturing related business looking to buy a manufacturing company

Participants Will

  • Understand, grow, and refine their capacity for authentic leadership
  • Learn high-level transferable executive and operational business skills
  • Expand and diversify their professional network
  • Improve their marketability by bringing new talents and connections to current and future professional roles

Topics and Activities

  • Personal reflection and self-discovery (what really motivates you?)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving sessions
  • AMA (ask me anything) sessions with current business owners and leaders
  • Extensive interaction with subject matter experts on topics related to finance and accounting, risk and legal, and business operations

Program Bonuses

  • Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment
  • Access to a virtual "data room" so all reference material is at your fingertips
  • Access to businesses seeking a transition to new ownership

Application Process

  • Interested participants should complete the online application and submit a current resume
  • Applications will be reviewed and then applicants will be notified either way
  • Once selected, participants will be prompted to register and pay for the program
  • Reach out to Brianna Schultz at 216.920.1967 for more detailed information.
